Fourth Transnational Partner Meeting of the Zoom Out

partner meeeting zoomout project

The fourth Transnational Partner Meeting of the Zoom Out project took place in Omiš, Croatia, and was organised by the Association Petit Philosophy and the school Josip Pupačić.

The meeting focused on the sharing of content and methodologies: each partner, association or school, drew up and presented a proposal for both practical and theoretical activities. Each proposal focused on children’s literature and internationality from very different points of view.

We reflected on the theme of intersectionality and how to apply it to the analysis of children’s literature. At the same time, we questioned how intersectionality can become a perspective for building educational practices.

Based on these concepts, the University of Vic and Apph teams reflected on literature as a construction of meanings from an intersectional perspective, both from the perspective of philosophy and the construction of critical thinking, and from the perspective of sociology.

Artijoc proposed a working method for building non-confrontational relationships.

It is called Provention (Prevention and Provide Resources) and the idea is to create a system where conflicts are prevented instead of resolved.

The schools (Escola La Sínia, Escola Joan Miró, Osnovna skola Josip Pupacic) brought their own experiences, opening a reflection on the different contexts and how literature is a powerful educational tool in every situation.

This is the background to Escola Joan Mirò’s proposal of an activity on the Restorative Circle, another tool and another way to learn to read one’s emotions, recognise them, name them. In this way, they explained, it is possible to build relationships based on consensus and not on conflict.

Scosse brought his point of view on illustrated books as tools for educating the eye, emphasising how important it is to always have an intersectional perspective that allows us to look at things from different points of view and how having the codes to read images gives us the codes to read the world.

Fundacja Laboratorium Zmiany proposed a participatory theatre activity to deconstruct stereotypes related to different axes of discrimination. Il Pungiglione, on the other hand, opened a new window from yet another point of view: to stop looking at disability from the point of view of Disability but to learn to read it from the point of view of Residual Capacities.

Each partner felt called upon and, together, part of a fruitful and rich reflection. All this took place in the beautiful setting of Omiš, nestled between the sea, the mountains and the Cetina river. Local traditions were pleasantly part of this meeting with a visit to the Kapla museum, a typical a cappella singing style of the Dalmatian region, and the opportunity to taste local specialities, first and foremost Sopani, prepared especially for us in Gata.
